Kijani House

About Kijani House

Take a boat from the airport to Shela and the iconic sight of Kijani House with it's arches and warm ochre glow welcomes you ashore. Situated on the beach where the traditional dhows and wooden boats that are the life force of Lamu are moored, the hotel is no less authentic than its surroundings.

Within Kijani's walls are verdant gardens and the sapphire twinkle of two fresh water pools; dozens of quiet corners to be alone and at peace, staffed by hospitable Kenyans who will make your stay a treasured memory.

Your host and Kijani's owner Pierre Oberson spent ten years lovingly restoring the three ruined houses which now make up this wonderful hotel. With the skill of local artisans, a love of coastal culture and a jackdaw's eye for authentic, antique and reproduction Swahili furniture, Pierre has turned Kijani into a truly charming small hotel which is opulent without being ostentatious.

The Kijani team are full of ideas for excursions to explore Lamu Island and the surrounding archipelago with all its historical and natural treasures. They can organise boat transfers and guides to open up a portal to the past and a feast for your senses.
